The Marketing & Communications Intern supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Marketing & Communications Intern at the Eugene Family YMCA is a vital part of a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined and builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact. This position will start mid-October. 10-20 hours per week; flexible schedule within business hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Possibility to continue after fall. Essential Functions: - Helps plan and create social media posts that represent the values and personality of the Eugene Family YMCA. - Photographs events, members and staff for social media, the Website, e-newsletters, printed newsletters or flyers. - Interviews members and staff for content for social media, the Website, e-newsletters, printed newsletters or flyers. - Willingness to learn new marketing and communications tools and platforms for website editing, social media management and marketing emails. - Complete all required trainings as assigned by supervisor, by scheduled due date. - If required to drive while on duty (either your own vehicle or a Y-owned vehicle), must maintain a current, valid Oregon driver’s license, a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards, and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment. - Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: - Education credits or previous experience in marketing, communications or other related field - At least intermediate level computer skills and experience with standard business software, including Microsoft Office applications Word and Excel Professional Competencies: - Understanding of the basics of social media, including the standard format of each platform (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & LinkedIn), the use of hashtags and links, and engagement - Excellent organizational skills - Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to call, email or meet in-person with members or other organizations - Ability to self-direct and work independently on assigned tasks - Ability to communicate effectively in a dynamic team environment Work Environment & Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
